I think we don't usually notice the rounded rear end because the wings are often hiding it. I didn't realize that until I went back looking for some older photos. I saw some photos of very different grasshoppers on Debbie Norman's blog: http://debbienorman.wordpress.com/ Her's are black and white...mine are always green or brown.
